Soundproof Flooring.

Floor soundproofing products for concrete and timber construction. Acuphon's acoustic flooring solutions are suitable for a variety of situations such as noisy neighbours, general domestic flooring and Part E solutions. Our acoustic underlays are suitable for carpets and 12mm (=/+)  engineered floors to be lay straight on top. With LVTs, Vinyls, laminates and tiles requiring a 6-9mm plywood or MDF to prevent any indents in your floor, as our underlays do have a factor of compression to soak up impact noise (footsteps).

Our wide range of acoustic floor coverings are quick and easy to install and can be used over all floor types and below most domestic and commercial floor finishes. Our acoustic underlay range includes solutions from the PhonoMat® 7 Slimline  a thinner more compact profile to the PhonoMat® 22 Pro Max , a thicker and greater mass acoustic underlay. Combine underlay mats with acoustic insulation for an effective floor soundproofing solution against impact and airborne sounds. Use an underlay in rooms that have to keep floor height loss to a minimum, but require airborne sound insulation.

If you require a more heavy-duty flooring solution you can choose from one of our ranges of floating floors e.g. The overlay range  includes, PhonoDeck® 24, PhonoDeck® Tri35s, all these systems can be installed over existing flooring or directly on to the floor joists.

Soundproofing for timber floors.

Unlike concrete floors, timber floors consist of very little mass (weight) therefore the transmission of airborne noise is likely. Our timber floor soundproofing solutions consist of slimline acoustic underlay mats to limit the loss of floor to ceiling height whilst acting as a high performing soundproofing system, products like the PhonoMat® 22 Pro Max are for the worst of situations whereas the PhonoMat® 12 Pro are for the mild. Needless to say these solutions protect you from unwanted noise.

What type of flooring is best for soundproofing?

To answer this, we need to break the question into two. One, what type of noise issue are you facing? If your wanting to tackle impact noise you need to add a resilient layer to soak up that impact energy. On the other hand if you want to tackle airborne noise you'll instead need to add a mass layer. Most products today have both especially when it comes down to underlays, however there is a trade off, the better the product is for airborne the worse it will be for impact, this is due to the mass layer being a tougher material, compared to what is required for an impact layer. Two, best flooring for soundproofing above this layer aka, your final floor finish is carpet. Carpet is bay far the best floor finish to have in terms of acoustics but also installation. Carpet is soft and light which help reduce impact noise.
